Surprise!

When I’ve returned from Denali National Park, one of the most common questions is, “Did you see any bears”? The answer is always an affirmative, bears are there!

My “view” of Denali which makes it different than any other park I’ve visited is this . . . Most parks are for visitors, and there are animals which live there, you may see some! Denali is a park for animals which allows visitors! All the “visitors” to Denali are either logged in as campers or on supervised school buses used to shuttle them around. As such, animals aren’t threatened by the careful, and restricted, visitors’ presence. E.g., the person to bear minimum distance is 1/4 mile! And, it’s the person’s responsibility to maintain! The net result is some spectacular opportunities to see and photograph animals.

All that to say, you’re always on the lookout for animals, especially that 1/4 mile bear limit. So, when surveying the hillside for some landscape photography and, surprise, someone has already come for dinner, it made for a quick picture, and great memory, and a prompt departure.
